Description: May,2013:Campground is closed for the 2013 season. Call the ranger district for updates. 3040-foot elevation. 15 sunny campsites and a group tent site are across the road from the Lochsa River. The Lochsa River is popular in the spring(April thru June) for whitewater sports. Closest put-in for river sports is at White Pine, a few miles west on Hwy 12. The Jerry Johnson trail, from the campground, goes north a couple of miles to Jerry Johnson peak. This hiking trail was used by Native Americans for fishing trips to Lochsa River. A trail just east of the campground heads south past Jerry Johnson hot springs into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Fishing for chinook salmon, steelhead, cutthroat and bull trout and mountain whitefish - catch and release rules apply to some of these species.
